Why Shangilia Germany?
Shangilia is a children’s home with attached elementary school in a slum of Kenya’s capital Nairobi. At present, about 250 children are being cared for in the home which was founded by Kenyans. Shangilia encourages the artistic skills of the children through music, dance and acrobatics and in so doing increasing their self-confidence. Our goal is to enable all children to receive an education and vocational training. Shangilia Germany finances most of the yearly costs by donations. In Germany, we carry out publicity work for the project, collect donations, manage sponsorships, establish contacts with foundations and sponsors, and work together with regional schools.
The people behind Shangilia Germany
The association was founded in 2009. The motivation of the founding members was based on the conviction that Shangilia is a real opportunity for people who cannot expect any other support. Today, the association consists of 11 members, all of whom work voluntarily. The club members regularly visit the home at their own expense. They are supported by numerous friends and supporters.
